Arsenal beat Newcastle to keep their hopes alive

Arsenal defeated Newcastle by 2-0 goals to nil at the St James’ Park. A long range effort by Martin Odegaard from 30 yards out broke the deadlock before Fabian Schar own-goal wrapped it up in the second half.

The victory sees the Gunners move a point behind defending champions Manchester City who have one game in hand.

Newcastle on the other hand, had won eight of their last nine games and suffered defeat just twice in their last 24 Premier League home games.

The Magpies still sit 3rd on the league log as Manchester United lost to Westham United at the London Stadium.
